Dave Palmer

Dave was raised in Worthington, Ohio.  His first broadcasting assignment was at WCOL in Columbus.  He later held posts at KWYO Wyoming, KIMN Denver, KCBQ San Diego, KFRC San Francisco, KHJ Los Angles and KGMB Honolulu.  His broadcast mentors were Buzzie Bennett, Gene Chenault & Bill Drake.  Along the way, Dave studied Fine Arts (music, theater & cinema) at various colleges including Ohio State, Wyoming, NYU, UCLA & Hawaii.  Some of his show biz assignments included Playhouse of the Green (Columbus), Kenley Players (Columbus), Cleveland Playhouse and Geffen Playhouse (Los Angeles).  There were others too.  We won’t even begin to describe his musical experiences as a drummer and percussionist, but his heart was in broadcasting.  In 1973, he and his father, Fred Palmer, purchased WATH AM & FM. WATH-FM became WXTQ in 1976.

Fred Palmer had a long career in broadcast dating back to 1928 and beginning at WAIU (now WTVN) in Columbus.  He was inducted in the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1984 – a distinction that has only ever been awarded to 84 individuals.  In the late 1940s, Fred Palmer began sales training seminars and eventually became recognized by Sales Marketing Executives International as one of the top sales and motivation convention speakers of that era along with Zig Ziglar and Dale Carnegie.  Dave himself has been very active with broadcast industry trade associations including the Ohio Association of Broadcasters and the National Association of Broadcasters where he represented all of Ohio & Indiana stations on its Board.  He also was a registered lobbyist.

Dave has been married to Patricia for 30 years.  They blended a family and today enjoy six grandchildren.  He has been very active in numerous community and regional roles and was an adjunct faculty member at Ohio University’s Scripps School of Journalism.  A founding Board member of the Southern Ohio Collegiate Baseball Club, Dave is President of the Copperheads.

Join Dave  for Party Line talk show  Monday thru Friday 9am-10am on 970 WATH and 97.1 FM.

The Party Line is Ohio’s longest continuously airing talk show having started in 1974.  The Squire of the Hocking Valley, Woody Simpson was its first host but the show originally was called Up On Mockingbird Hill which began as a gardening tips program.  But it wasn’t too long before its focus expanded to other topics and with that became The Party Line.  Ted Jacobson was the shows next host.  It was in 1980 that Dave Palmer began hosting the show and he remains so today.  The Party Line now enjoys the monthly appearances by Ohio University’s President, Athens’ Mayor, County Commissioners, dignitaries, celebrities  and experts in a variety of timely topics.
