Stuart’s Opera House Presents a Poetry Out Loud Workshop!
NELSONVILLE, OHIO — Are you looking for free ways to enrich your high school poetry curriculum and meet your Common Core and NCTE benchmarks at the same time? In need of a new approach to engaging indifferent teenagers? Interested in providing a public speaking experience for your students that deepens their grasp of language and offers them the opportunity to earn prize money? In search of a worthwhile activity that demonstrates your own community involvement? If you answered yes to any of the above, please come to a Poetry Out Loud Teacher Training Workshop this fall! Poetry Out Loud is a free high school poetry recitation contest sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, and offered in partnership with state arts agencies nationwide. It has a pyramid structure, beginning at the classroom level and culminating in a national competition with large prizes. Teachers register for the program, and their students choose poems to memorize and recite from a huge online anthology of great poetry. The program helps introduce students to our shared literary heritage in poetry while giving them public speaking experience and increasing their self-confidence.
Our workshop presenters will share their expertise on using POL in the classroom, including how to launch the program, organize a contest, engage students, and coach them toward their best performance. Certificates will be provided for workshop participants to claim CEU credits.
Stuart’s Opera House will host a FREE training workshop for all past, current, and prospective Poetry Out Loud teachers in Nelsonville, Ohio on Wednesday, October 10th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. The workshop will take place at 30 Public Square in Nelsonville, Ohio Register for the workshop by contacting Emily Prince, POL’s regional coordinator, at 740-753-1924 or email@example.com. We encourage advance registration but walk-ins are welcome. The workshop venue is ADA accessible – check with Emily if you have questions.
